Every subsequent time I brought more and more co-workers from Vinted Engineering. The things my co-workers and I learned over the years in LeadDev have greatly influenced how we work and lead at Vinted. As one of us said this year – “it’s the most useful conference I’ve ever attended”. From Meetups to major conferences, lightning talks to keynotes, I regularly give great tech talks. We’re continuing to follow advice from public health authorities and will only relaunch our in-person meetups when it’s safe to do so. In the meantime, we look forward to connecting with the community virtually.
To help make our meetup as welcoming as possible, we provide non-alcoholic drinks and vegetarian/vegan food options. If you have any specific accessibility requirements, please let us know and we’ll do our best to make the necessary accommodations. It’s important to see others like you up on the stage to foster inclusivity.
His expertise in IT began in 1989 and has led him through roles in-classroom training, desktop support, server support, and software distribution. Once you see the connection between communication and success, you’ll realize it’s just as important to measure that communication as anything else you’re tracking. When you use a tool like Flow, you expect to see reporting about pull requests, active coding hours, and the process of pushing new features to customers. You might not realize that reporting in Flow extends beyond the expected—it also enables engineering leaders to see data on their teams’ communication. As engineers scale the technical track, they need to take on a new set of skills. StaffPlus New York is a one-day conference on March 16, focussing on the strategies and frameworks specific to the senior individual contributor ladder.

The Lead Developer is an international conference for engineering managers, tech leads and CTOs, taking place in London, Austin and New York.
Recently, at the LeadDev NYC conference, Neha Batra, Senior Director of Engineering at GitHub, gave a presentation about how communication can—and should—be an expression of your team culture. She emphasized that as more communication is shared throughout the team and up and down the org chart, it builds transparency and trust. Honest mistakes and omitting facts in reporting are bound to happen, but if you work within a culture of communication, you can more easily understand and address them. If employees know their voices are heard and that collaboration drives organizational and personal success, they’ll be more likely to take part in team ceremonies.
The annual conference is full of practical takeaways to help you lead your team, build psychological safety, and support your team members to level up to leadership roles themselves. Join hundreds of technical leaders at LeadDev and gain insights and learnings and expand your network. Access the tools to be more effective in your role, your organization, and your career. Working to improve the developer experience isn’t something you can do by simply finding more time for your employees to write code. You need to focus on the overall culture of your organization, how your teams work together on projects and tasks, and how you, as a leader, connect with your employees in ceremonies and beyond.
Communication begets transparency, which begets a more inclusive and helpful team. Our meetup is an extension of the conference for the community to get together, network and learn to develop yourself and your team. Featuring short talks and refreshments, it’s the perfect opportunity for some mid-week inspiration. A successful, high-performing engineering organization needs effective leadership at all levels.
Through a career spanning tech and media, I’ve gained deep experience leading teams at startups. I have particular expertise working with remote colleagues, distributed teams and satellite offices. People like collaborating with me to set strategy, develop products and improve operations. How leaders show up for their teams and build open lines of communication is as critical as your coding languages and backend tools. Communication can’t be an afterthought in software development. In fact, within Flow you’ll find several reports dedicated to improving communication for direct reports and the team at large.
Amazing because I learned so much and made so many great connections. Inspiring because I hope to not only attend next year’s event, I hope to do so as a speaker. The highest levels of engineering org management are challenging and isolating.
This new role requires a completely different skill set with a focus on “soft skills” to be a successful leader. Make the most of the learning opportunity with a leadership workshop before the conference, hosted by industry-leading tutors. These reasons, and many others, are why Flow is such a valuable engineering insights tool. Seeing a spreadsheet of completed work is great, but what provides real value to software engineers and executives is seeing how that work gets done. Identifying where collaboration is thriving and comparing it over time drives sustainable success.
